What to Pack for Your Trip to Salmon Falls Resort

Salmon Falls Resort

As Adventure Sales Manager, guests often ask me, “What do I need to bring with me to Salmon Falls Resort?  What kind of weather should I pack for?”  Ketchikan is a temperate climate, with temperatures hovering around the low 60s throughout the summer.  While we do get sunny days, it’s always best to prepare for all kinds of weather, wind and rain included.  You can only put on the layers you have with you, as the saying goes!

Here’s our handy packing list to make sure you’re ready for anything, whether you’re fishing each day of your stay or joining us for some great Alaska activities.  Remember, Ketchikan has an adventure casual vibe, so you’ll often see people wearing jeans with their favorite fleece vest.  You’ll find the same at Salmon Falls Resort, but if you’d like to include a nice top or slacks for dinner at Timbers Restaurant, we encourage this!

Available from Salmon Falls Resort:

  • Rainproof overalls
  • Rainproof jacket
  • Rain boots

To bring with you:

  • Fleece/wool jacket or sweater
  • Pants (convertible, quick-dry and lightweight)
  • Rain jacket (hooded, lightweight, waterproof and breathable)
  • T-shirts (synthetic and lightweight)
  • Base layers
  • Fleece/wool hat or baseball cap
  • Waterproof shoes or hiking boots with a non-slip sole
  • Warm socks (synthetic or wool)
  • Insect repellent
  • Sunscreen and lip balm with SPF
  • Sunglasses
  • Toiletries
  • Backpack

Optional:

  • Camera and accessories
  • Fishing or shrimping gloves
  • Dry bag (5L-10L)
  • Small binoculars

You’ll also need your fishing license, which you can purchase in advance from Alaska Fish & Game or allow our friendly office staff to set you up when you arrive.

You won’t need to worry about a cooler to get your fish home.  Your catch is flash-frozen and packaged at Salmon Falls, before being secured in a waxed fish box for your return flight.  This fish is frozen solid and should arrive home still cold, so all you have to do it put it in your freezer.

I hope this helps you pack for your trip to the “Salmon Capital of the World”.  We’re excited to welcome you to our home. Safe travels and see you soon!
